What Does Age Mean to You?
Do you feel your age? Or do you just feel... you?
For me, turning 50 felt like stepping into a whole new level of energy and confidence. The half-century milestone was celebrated in style, and I felt better than I had in years. In the run-up to my birthday, I was taking care of my body and mind like never before—fueling well, moving daily, sleeping deeply, and thriving. I loved turning 50! It wasn’t about a number; it was about how I felt, and I felt incredible.
Age: A Number or a Feeling?
Some things are within our control, some aren’t. Yes, there are consequences of aging—peri-menopause is real lingering like an uninvited guest at a cool party , and those long dreamy summers spent baking in the sun in factor 2 during our teens and 20s? They're catching up now! But the way we feel, the way we show up in life, that’s ours to shape.
Science backs this up: research shows that those who feel younger than their actual age tend to live longer, healthier lives. A study from University College London found that people who 'felt younger' had a 41% lower risk of death over an eight-year period compared to those who felt their age or older. Mindset matters. And if mindset matters, then why not make it a positive one?
Thriving at Any Age
So how do we continue feeling amazing as we move through different life stages? Here’s what I’ve found works:
Move in ways you love – Strength, mobility, flexibility, and cardio all matter, but make it fun! Tennis, running, hiking, or even dancing around the kitchen—just keep moving. Movement isn't just exercise; it's joy in motion.
Fuel well – Prioritise protein, fresh whole foods, and hydration. It’s not about restricting; it’s about adding and nourishing. Eating well fuels not just your body but your mood, your energy, and your ability to enjoy life to the fullest.
Sleep and rest – Recovery is key. Good sleep fuels energy, skin, mood, and longevity. The best version of yourself needs downtime to regenerate and shine.
Mindset shift – Age isn’t a limit; it’s an opportunity. Some of the best things in life happen later. Studies show happiness often increases with age! Let’s look forward to each new chapter instead of dreading it.
Surround yourself with all ages – Having friends across different generations brings fresh perspectives, wisdom, fun, and connection. Energy is contagious. Laugh with those who bring out your best self, and let go of anything that drains your sparkle.
Respect, Embrace, Thrive
Aging isn’t something to fight; it’s something to respect and embrace. Every line, every experience, every moment—it all adds up to a life well lived. Feeling good isn’t about looking younger, it’s about showing up with energy, purpose, and excitement for what’s next.
Some of our best years are ahead. New opportunities, new experiences, and new adventures are waiting. Your energy, your attitude, and your choices shape how you feel far more than your birth year ever will.
So let’s feel incredible—at every age! Let’s celebrate wisdom, confidence, and the freedom that comes with knowing who we are. Age is just a number, but how we live? That’s everything.
